14 signs that the collapse of our modern world has already begun

The far more honest answer is that the end of the world as we know it has already begun. And it doesn't mean the end of the world; it means the closing of one era and the birth of a new one. But don't wait around for December 2012 to look for the signs. Here are 14 signs that the world as we know it is unraveling right now. #1 - Tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis - At first it seemed like a fluke; but now it's a pattern. The weather is becoming increasingly extreme. Over 120 tornadoes recently struck the U.S. Midwest. Texas is on fire and suffering through an extreme drought. And where there aren't fires and droughts, there are floods. #2 - The silence of the bees - Colony Collapse Disorder continues to accelerate across North America. #13 - The ongoing pharmaceutical pollution of our world - Beyond the GMO contamination and the radiation contamination of our world, we are also experiencing the mass pharmaceutical contamination of our planet. How is the human race going to survive its exposure to CT scans, radioactive food, chest X-rays, TSA body scanners and even the secret DHS mobile X-ray vans that can penetrate your body with X-rays as you're walking into a football stadium? It's accelerating, too

December, 2012 may be a useful date as some sort of mid-point in the crisis, or perhaps as a trigger date for some further acceleration of society's rapid unraveling. But make no mistake: We are already living in the collapse of our modern world. And you have a front-row seat! (Exciting, huh?)

Think about what's happening around you these days. These are the signs of the last, desperate clutches of a civilization built on utterly unsustainable practices that don't value life on our world. In the quest for more money, humanity has sacrificed its food supply, its pollinators, it's oceans, forests and soils. Greed-driven humans have used other humans as medical experiments and cannon fodder. We have created wars to sell more bombs, and we've invented disease to sell psychiatric chemicals.

These are the practices of a failed civilization... and one whose days are numbered. Watching it all crumble is far more interesting than watching it continue its destructive ways, of course, because those of us paying attention realize a future civilization must rise up in the place of this one after the collapse.

Say goodbye to the false power of institutions

It would be nice if our future leaders remembered the importance of liberty and personal responsibility, of course. The answer to all the world's problems, it turns out, is freedom -- freedom in medicine, freedom in economics and freedom from government tyranny.

Because, let's face it: The root cause of most these problems that are bringing down our world right now is bad government. It is bad government (Big Government) that approved the GMOs. Bad government enforced the medical monopoly and allowed the pesticides to kill the honeybees. Bad government drove us into inescapable debt and costly foreign wars. Bad government outlawed health freedom and protected the monopolistic practices of the food companies, drug companies and chemical companies.

The downfall of modern human civilization is, as you probably guessed, also the downfall of the very idea that Big Government creates a better society. Because if there's one idea that needs to stay dead after the collapse, it's the idea that We the People somehow need another group of people (government workers) to live off our hard work while hounding us with their false authority, directing every little detail of our lives.

What we need in our world isn't more government, but more freedom. If we had freedom, integrity and personal responsibility, we wouldn't even be facing the global collapse that has already begun. But alas, the human race is an infant species and it must learn some lessons the hard way, it seems.

This lesson should be long remembered: If you let the corporations, the banks and the governments run your economies, your farms and your lives, they will enslave you and steal your future while you sleep; they will inject silent poisons into the very world around you until you awaken one day to find that all you created has been destroyed. They will promise you paradise but deliver only death. Beware of any entity that is not a living person -- no government, no institution, no corporation has a soul, nor a heart, nor a conscience. They are forces of organized destruction that decimate those things we hold dear while delivering to us things that will only enslave us or harm us.

Beware the corporation; the government; the non-profit institution working as a front group for private industry. Never allow yourself to be ruled over by any institution which exists only as a fictional construct organized from the projection of human greed.

Just The Way It Is

I have been getting emails from all over the world for that past three months asking what I've been doing, and where are my essays. Well, I have had plenty to say about the fiasco going on in America but I also have had to focus on business.

This Saturday, December 13, 2008, I watched a movie that I had never seen. I rarely get time to just relax and watch TV so this was the lunch hour break with a part of a movie.

The movie is titled 'Article 99' and is about a VA hospital. Due to a bureaucratic butt-wipe hospital director, the veterans, doctors and nurses took over the hospital. Sort of like what needs to happen in Washington, DC but that is another story, another day.

The movie has a great line in it, quoted by Noble Willingham (deceased 2004) who played the VA Inspector General in this movie. When he decided that the VA Hospital Director was the problem, had to go, this is the line:

"I have been in government service for 40 years and have seen your type from Germany to Saigon, proof positive that shit does in fact float to the top."

If ever there was a cruel lie put forth by the US government it is that the Uncle Sam will provide that top quality medical care for our veterans. That is one of the ugliest fictions ever invented in DC.

I liked Nobel Willingham as an actor, just natural like Slim Pickens, Wilfred Brimley and William Farnsworth. If you do not know who Willingham is, recall the movie "Good Morning, Vietnam". He is the General that told Forest Whitaker "damn son, the shadow of your ass weighs 30 pounds" when the two were discussing his diet and meeting the US Army weight requirements.

DC is also proof positive that shit does in fact float to the top. George H W Bush was a useless president, 4 years of the essence of nothingness and really nothing at all memorable except his big lie regarding Desert Storm. It was memorable that he crashed the US economy just like Junior, but most people prefer to not remember bad economic times.

One has to wonder about the memorable quotes of such a president that were merely damnable lies. Like father, like son, it is a family defect.

Then we got Clinton, Mr. Corruption. I have known Clinton since 1981 and can say with certainty that he is the only American I know who has contributed nothing to America in the entire time I have known him. I am not aware of anything he has done but teach our children to lie, do weird things with cigars and White House interns, and give an Oscar level performance in lying and equivocating. Most of us Arkansans know what the meaning of 'is' is and were quite offended with Mr. Slick Waffle playing all of those word games to save his sorry ass.

For all of that Hillary rhetoric about 'the politics of personal responsibility', she frankly needs to start in her own home and deal with that. It would take an entire village to keep her husband off the nearest whore.

Most Americans seem to not remember that Clinton did not win the State of Arkansas in either 1992 or 1996. Seems most Americans failed to read what the largest newspaper in Arkansas had to say when it DID NOT endorse Clinton for President of the United States.

"Finally, and sadly, there is the unavoidable subject of character in a presidential candidate.... But it is not the duplicitousness in his politics that concerns so much as the polished ease, the almost habitual, casual, articulate way he bobs and weaves. He has mastered the art of equivocation. There is something almost inhuman in his smoother responses that sends a shiver up the spine. It is not the compromises he has made that trouble so much as the unavoidable suspicion that he has no great principles to compromise.'' -- Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, October 28, 1992

It would be so nice if Americans could read, or grasp the content of what they read. Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Greenberg (Editorial Editor, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette) could not have summed up the nothingness of Bill Clinton more succinctly than the above non-endorsement for President of our nation.

Sad, another 8 years wasted, another huge fraud in the Oval Office and many Americans put into the poor house because of it.

Sadder still is another 8 years of lies, genocide, a completely fabricated Global War on Terror out chasing American Unipolar hegemony that died in 1991. That there are at least 7,000 Americans dead (9-11 and combat), another 10,000 or more GIs dead since they returned home, and about 4 million dead Afghans and Iraqis. I am a devout Ecumenical Christian and feel pretty certain that there are sins that are in the unforgiveable realm.

We have Pelosi leading the House, Reid the Senate and homosexual page boy chaser Barney Franks appearing in every bailout photo op. I rest my case, shit floats to the top and the United States of America is now the pre-eminent global example of that.

Have you figured it out yet America? Saddam Hussein was no problem to the US. The powers-that-be wanted all of that oil and gas, and through the GHWB, Clinton and current fiasco Bush Administrations, our nation at the behest of its Zionist NWO controllers has inflicted genocide on about 2 million Iraqis. Those are the facts and they are undisputed.

The US desperately needs a pipeline across Afghanistan, but it is now about 8 years too late for that since most of the natural gas has been contracted with Russia, China and India. I have written on it many times, BRIDAS CORPORATION had the deal sewed up until Bush launched his bogus war on terror and the Clinton Administration made sure that Turkmenistan and Pakistan were not going to cooperate with the pipeline route the US coveted.

The oil is being carved up as you read this and the losers are US and UK. The Grand Chessboard is in checkmate and the US lost. Got that? Those are the facts and they are undisputed except in Washington, DC, aka: Delusionville, USA.

You need to 'get that' because the US has murdered 2-3 million Afghanis, too, and still does not have that pipeline. Of course, Barky Obamanation is going to 'surge' Afghanistan and prove to the world he is dumber than Bush.

Lest you missed the past 2 years, all of those DNC promises that they would stop the Iraq War in 2006 if America would vote them back into power have proven to be total, traitorous, treasonous lies. Pelosi, Reid, et al should either rot in Hell or face a firing squad.

If you have been hanging on the edge of your chair regarding the GM - Toyota battle to be the World's Largest Automaker you can take a deep breath and relax. GM is bankrupt, closing 20 plants to stop the need to stack cars on top of cars that no one wants to buy or can afford to buy. Toyota, meanwhile, is doing fine and GM has major problems. I heard that GM has to sell 15 million cars a year to break even, have been averaging about 11 million cars, so yeah, they are in big trouble.

I recently saw a US car dealer ad, buy one, get the second for $1. Folks, that is not a bargain. That is a warning sign flashing in big red lights "America is in TROUBLE".

I hear through the grapevine and Internet that Mighty George Bush is going to 'surge' Detroit next and show how worthless his MBA is. Stay tuned to the news on that one.

If you are not mad yet about the $7 trillion bailout of the gangsters, banksters and criminals on Wall Street, you need to pay close attention to how that knife in your back is going to affect your quality of life. The US is not in a recession, it is now in a depression and with all of this newly printed bailout debt money deflation of the US dollar is going to come home to roost like an elephant crapping in your chili.

No foreign nations are buying this new DC debt. The Fed is just printing money and where necessary sending some of it overseas to buy the US and Wall Street out of massive litigation as a result of the completely bogus, propped up US housing market so idiot Americans would think all was rosy and hunky-dory.

Next to crash will be the $14 trillion or so in US consumer debt, propping up an economy that was dead back about 1997. Many foreign nations are livid and hopping mad at having their banks and their pension funds plundered, looted and robbed by this criminal cabal on Wall Street and their RICO buddies in Washington, DC.

Maybe when that bailout reaches about $25 trillion you will get mad, sitting out on the curb of what used to be your home?

If you Barky backers have not figured it out yet, you got hosed big time in this last election. You morons thought it was raining and Barky was the Sun. No, that was Barky pissing on your feet and lying out his butt to get elected. Barky has been appointing and installing all of the thugs and thieves that America loves to hate. There is no 'change'. What in Hell made you think Barky was telling the truth?

The only change I see is we now have a part Black president who has not done anything in his political career but talk, and cannot seem to find his birth certificate.

I predict many Democrats will be asking by June or July, WHERE IS SARAH PALIN?

Of course, there is still that Constitutional question as to Barky's eligibility to even be president. Regardless of how much obfuscation his handlers spew, remember well that other world leaders will look at him as being

unqualified - so nothing will get done during his 4 years if office except more harm to America. If you Barky backers do not think that China, Russia and India, and much of the rest of the world are laughing their asses off at America electing Barky, you will learn soon enough.

If Americans think Hillary Clinton is trading up from Condoleezza Rice, think again. All we get with Hillary is no buck-teeth, a different skin color and still rotten to the core. Most of the rest of the world hates the Clintons with a passion and for good cause. I predict American foreign diplomacy is about to hit a low point like never before in the history of our nation. We might soon miss the Little Black Poodle scurrying around to peeing on the feet of other nations, like the Russian Bear.

If you missed the confession, Mikhiel The Tie-Eater Shakashvili did, in fact, admit that Georgia attacked and started the flap with Russia ON AUGUST 7 the day before the Olympics. So, consider that and all of the blowhard bullshit we all saw from the EU and Washington, DC.

Georgia is not happy about NATO saying NO, but the Ukrainians are breathing a sigh of relief. They know Russia cares more about them than the US or UK or EU.

If Americans are not thinking already about taking the House and Senate away from Barky in 2010, better start making plans. By the middle of 2009 most Americans will wish they had never heard of Barky Obama. I predict numbers lower than Bush in 2009 alone and that is a hard hat trick to do, but Barky will get it done. That is the CHANGE I predict. Barky will set a new low in American Presidential politics.

I am wondering how many 18-40 year old Americans are prepared to just stop their lives and go serve Barky's Mandatory Serve America program. I bet the shirkers on that deal will make Vietnam draft- dodgers look like no big deal. I would not follow Barky across the street for coffee, much less change my life plans for him.

If you are one of the many Americans who cannot afford Christmas this year, do not fret, try something different. Try celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ rather than celebrating the lies emanating from DC and Wall Street about how important it is to shop.

Factory orders are down, unemployment skyrocketing, as are foreclosures on homes, Citibank shedding 12,000, Bank of America 35,000, 20 GM plants idled, Chrysler vendors want cash to deliver, etc, so Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Some ask, "what do I do?" Hmm, buckle up, make sure you know where the lifejacket is because the waters are about to become far rougher for America.

It is with a heavy heart, and continued resolve to fight onward, that I issue today's announcement.

A bloody civil war rages in Mexico with over 5,000 killed so far in 2008, including many Americans and just this week, the major newspapers in America finally told the public about it. With little fanfare or press coverage, Canada has descended into a dictatorship as Prime Minister Stephen Harper has used an obscure provision to shut down the Canadian Parliament, to avoid the equivalent of impeachment, two months after he was elected. Can you picture Bush dissolving or dismissing Congress, to avoid removal from office? The equivalent just happened in Canada this week!

France, Spain, Italy, and now Greece are being rocked by riots that involve illegal aliens, now dubbed "immigrants" by the western media or "guest workers" by the governments like France that put their illegal aliens on their version of the McCain, Obama, Bush "path to citizenship" plan.

Today, we received more news that should make it clear that America is no longer a Republic or Democracy. It should be clear that most of our Homeland Security and Immigration Enforcement is nothing but a sick joke perpetrated at great expense of money and lost liberties from the American public.

First we learn that Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff has been hiring illegal aliens through a firm to clean his house. Even though the Secret Service says they ran security background checks on all the employees, the illegal aliens passed with flying colors. Hey, Osama Bin Laden, got anyone in your cave who would like easy access to Michael Chertoff's home office, kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms? All any terrorist or espionage agent from any nation needs to do is to enter the US illegally and apply for a job at James D. Reid's company Consistent Cleaning Services in Maryland.

This company also did work in the DC homes of Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright. If you are just a worker, a spy, or a terrorist, come right on down. Those with Tuberculosis or criminal backgrounds will not be discriminated against, since only LEGAL immigrants go through those checks. Just try to control your cough, when cleaning the dishes and make sure you leave your criminal conduct at the door please.

Michael Chertoff should resign, be arrested, and charged for hiring illegal aliens, gross misconduct, and neglect of duties during a time of war.

That jackass can't secure his own home from illegal aliens, much less the Borders of the United States.

Meanwhile, over at the White House, dictator Bush the "decider" of which laws he will or will not enforce signs an Executive Order in the middle of the night that will opening the flood gates on farm worker H2A visas.


Now, the Constitution says that the Congress is supposed to set our immigration laws, but don't mind that. Congress was not consulted or asked to approve these drastic changes to bring a flood of new 'guest worker' immigrants into America. Congress will be asked to rubber stamp it later because big Globalist corporations have already decided for us how it going to be and the horse and pony pretend we're a Democracy show over in Congress can legitimize what is already being done later, or not.

Right now, the Congress is busy passing highly unpopular bailout bills to put every American and future generations so far into debt, that we will all be taxed like slaves in an iron fist, to pay and pay with little in return. The Federal Reserve and White House have already committed most of these funds, they just want Congress to rubber stamp the billion dollar corporate looter giveaways to the illusion America is still America and continue a bit longer.

Thank God again for Lou Dobbs, for being the first person in the Main Stream Media (MSM) to report on these dictatorial moves by Bush. Let's hope that some of those propaganda writers at all the newspapers that are about to shut down, take notice of his growing audience. The biased, corporate, and liberal newspapers are dinosaurs of the past, and reporters like Dobbs who actually reports the facts quickly to the public are the future.

While the news that Chertoff is above the very laws he has sworn to enforce and has allowed illegal aliens in lawmakers' bedrooms is explosive, and Bush moves on his own to flood the country with more bodies, by an Executive Order for a new Guest Worker program, which Congress rejected are bad enough, there's more.

The Lou Dobbs Show transcripts from the night of Wednesday, December 10, 2008 contains even more shocking news.

For the last four years, ALIPAC has reported that LEGAL immigration levels are at historic highs near 1.6 million per year. That level is more than any other nation on earth and more than most other nations on the earth combined!

At these levels, legal immigration and illegal immigration has created the largest short term movement of people on the globe in human history, predominantly from Central and South America, into the US.

So imagine our shock when we spotted the following information in the Dobbs report.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, or immediately medicate and institutionalize me, if I'm imagining things but does this mean that legal immigration levels have been expanded to over 2 million, without Congressional approval or any significant discussion in the American media or the knowledge of our citizenry? Do these numbers include the almost 1 million permanent resident green cards given out annually as well?

Either someone on the Lou Dobbs Show or the State Department has made a mistake, or...

The Bush administration has proceeded via Executive fiat to accomplish the expanded flood of immigration he sent Chertoff to lobby the Senate for last year before the plan was rejected.

If the latter is the case, then we now live in a dictatorship with only the illusions of Democracy wrapped around it. Those taxed in America elected Representatives who have no influence over or knowledge of immigration policy, which means America is in a Constitutional crisis.

What should those of us who actually speak out for the super majority of Americans who say in polls they are opposed to these new types of authoritarian and secretive decrees do?

Should we call Congress and complain that their existing laws and Constitutional authority are as worthless as Confederate money? Should Bush be impeached? Arrested? Censored by the Congress? Should We The People of America bow down and grovel before our masters to restore the American republic and the Rule of Law?

The Executive Branch and many of the high roller Globalists on both sides of the aisle in Washington are sending the message to the American public that we don't care what the Constitution says, what the current laws say, what the real polls say, or what our Constituents say, or what is best for the citizens of America, we serve other masters.

Liar Obama Wants Missile Crisis With Russia

CHICAGO – President-elect Obama has spoken to the president of Poland about relations between the two countries but didn't make a commitment on the multibillion-dollar missile defense program undertaken by the Bush administration, an Obama aide said Saturday.
That contrasts with a statement by Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who said Obama told him the missile defense project would continue.
The U.S. and Poland signed an agreement in August for basing American missiles in Poland as part of a shield against possible missile attacks from Iran.
A missile shield set up so close to its borders has been a sore point with Russia and has served as another dent in its battered relationship with the U.S.
On Wednesday, the day after Obama's election, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev threatened to move short-range missiles to Russia's borders with NATO allies even as the U.S. offered new proposals on nuclear arms reductions as well as missile defense. Allowing Russian observers at planned missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic were among them, U.S. officials said.
The missile defense plan received relatively little discussion during the presidential campaign. Republican candidate John McCain supported it while Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton, his rival for the Democratic nomination, expressed skepticism about its effectiveness and cost.
Obama said earlier this year that the system would require much more vigorous testing to ensure it would work and justify the billions of dollars it would cost.
Obama foreign policy adviser Denis McDonough said Saturday that Obama had "a good conversation" with Kaczynski about the American-Polish alliance.
"President Kaczynski raised missile defense, but President-elect Obama made no commitment on it. His position is as it was throughout the campaign, that he supports deploying a missile defense system when the technology is proved to be workable," McDonough said.
In a statement issued before McDonough's, Kaczynski said Obama "emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership of Poland and the United States and expressed hope in the continuation of political and military cooperation between our countries. He also said that the missile defense project would continue."
President Bush wanted construction of a European missile shield — installations would be in Poland and the Czech Republic — to begin before he left office in January with a completion date of 2012.
Under the U.S. plan, 10 interceptors would be placed in Poland and radar systems would be located in the Czech Republic. The system could identify and shoot down missiles fired by Iran at Europe or the United States.
Experts in the Defense Department believe more interceptor testing is required, according to reports over the summer. Additional tests could delay the program for years.

We have done all the things that we need to do, but the threat is building - the complex plots are building,”
Across the channel from England you have the French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner warning the press that he believes Israel will strike Iran before they can develope nuclear weapons completley ignoring the fact that the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohammed ElBradei, said that Iran lacks the key components to produce an atomic weapon.
“The devastation that could be wreaked by one major nuclear weapons incident alone puts 9/11 and almost everything else [in] to the category of the insignificant,” Rudd said.
Why are there so many high level politicians around the world in a seemingly coordinated effort warning of huge threats and developing crisis’ that may include a nuclear device? Are they preparing the masses for an event or series of events that have been in the making for some time? Civilian Inmate Labor Programs Are Now Mainstream.

The Civilian Inmate Labor Program is a program of the United States Army provided by Army Regulation 210-35^[1]. The regulation, first drafted in 1997, underwent a "rapid act revision" in January 2005; it provides policy for the creation of labor programs and prison camps on Army installations. The labor would be provided by persons under the supervision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Labor programs

Labor programs set forth by the Civilian Inmate Labor Program regulation involve the use of minimum and low security inmates from facilities under the control of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, with a few apparent exceptions for State-held and locally-held inmates, on installations controlled by the Army.

The regulation states that labor programs benefit the Army and the corrections facilities by supplying "a source of labor at no direct cost to the Army," giving "meaningful work to inmates" and alleviation to "overcrowding in nearby corrections facilities" and by making use of otherwise unused land and buildings.

The regulation indicates that the inmates could perform labor as allowed by 18 USC 4125(A)^[2].

The regulation also sets forth policy for the creation of prison camps on Army installations. These would be used to keep inmates of the labor programs resident on the installations.

In January 2006, Kellogg, Brown and Root reported that they had received a contract from the Department of Homeland Security to expand ICE DRO facilities "in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."^[3] A February news article comments that the "new programs" mentioned could include the Civilian Inmate Labour Program.^[4] ICE has "joint federal facilities" with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.^[5]

WASHINGTON DC -- Obama's first appointments have confirmed the grimmest suspicions about the new regime. The naming of the vicious thug Rahm Emanuel as the new Martin Bormann of the regime has caused much consternation, even among the netroots or nutroots crowd over at the Daily Kos. Rahm is a former member of the Israeli Defense Force whose ruling passion is that he is a warmonger. In 2006, when Rahm ran the Democratic congressional money machine, he made sure that only warmongers committed to the open-ended prosecution of the Afghan and Iraq wars could get any Democratic Party financing for their races. Many contests were lost as a result. A tragic case was that of grass-roots antiwar activist Christine Cegelis of Ohio, who was defeated in the Democratic primary by Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq war veteran who advocated endless hostilities there. Duckworth lost to the Republican by several points. If the $300,000 Rahm gave Duckworth had been shared with anti-war candidate Bob Bowen in Florida, a Democratic seat could easily have been added. Rahm is also a product of the filthy and corrupt Illinois bipartisan Combine, which I have described in my books. A co-chair of the transition team is Valerie Jarrett, who served as Barky's travelling schoolmarm during the campaign. Jarrett also comes from the Daley wing of the Illinois combine. She has provided graft and related support for Michelle Obama's foundation-funded operations. Jarrett is also an integral part of the Chicago housing graft community, a region also inhabited by Barky's original godfather, the convicted felon and thief Tony Rezko. Jarrett is discussed in detail in my Obama biography. She is joined on the transition team by John Podesta, a Clinton-era retread who worked for Sen. Tom Daschle, the senator from Citibank, the biggest employer in South Dakota. Podesta also worked for Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, a close personal friend of Weatherman terrorist bombers Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. Another Daschle-Citibank retread is transition co-chair Tom Rouse, who was the chief of staff for Daschle when he was the weakest Democratic majority leader in recent memory, surrendering to Bush on point after point. Chief strategist remains David Axelrod of the corrupt Illinois Combine, who was taught his mindbending skills in the infamous "1313" Rockefeller-funded think tank at the University of Chicago. BANKERS ONLY: NO VOICE FOR LABOR, RETIREES, SMALL BUSINESS, WOMEN Obama's transitional council of economic advisers is also notable. The dominant figures here are all Wall Street derivatives merchants and their quackademic apologists and politician clients. The key people here are plutocrat Warren Buffet, Obama moneybags and Hyatt heiress Penny Pritzker, Goldman Sachs-Citibank alum Robert Rubin, woman-hating thug and failed Harvard president Larry Summers, Google spook Eric Schmidt, and Roger Ferguson, the former vice president of the Federal Reserve board. The most obscene is Trilateral Commission bigwig Paul Adolf Volcker, the bringer of the 22% prime rate of 1981 and the destroyer of the US indsutrial base. What is truly notable about this list is that there is not one single labor leader. No Sweeney of the AFL-CIO, no Hoffa of the Teamsters, no UAW, not even the unsavory Andy Stern of the SIEU, all big Obama backers. Note the difference to the New Deal, when labor reps were indispensable. With Barky, only derivatives monsters and their stooges need apply. Also notable by their absence are leaders of women's groups, small business associations, the congressional black caucus, retirees groups like the AARP ­ there is not even a token face representing any of these groups, all of which have a vital interest in economic policy. Read the ill omens if you have eyes to see. The Obama regime is shaping up as of the bankers, by the bankers, for the bankers. This is not the FDR New Deal ­ this is the Mussolini fascist corporate state. WASHINGTON ECONOMIC CONFERENCE: THE DERIVATIVES BLOC VS. THE ANTI- DERIVATIVES BLOC We are also told that Barky has been on the phone to foreign leaders about matters of economic. Let us read the tea leaves: whom did Barky call? Here is the list: Australia, the British, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Mexico, and South Korea. Notice now who is NOT on the list. Start with the great world powers who have been snubbed: Russia and China, both of whom are bigger holders of US Treasury bonds than most of those who are on the list. Saudi Arabia, who might have needed reassurance that Barky is not a commie, are also snubbed. Forget ideology, and behold the ineptitude. Most glaring of all is the lack of any phone call to a leading third world or developing sector country, other than Mexico, which is a branch of NAFTA. No calls were made to Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, India or a long list of other leading states. Nobody in Africa, nobody in south Asia, and nobody in South America got a call. Not even those who will be coming to the pseudo-Bretton Woods conference set for Washington later this month. The best we can hope for regarding that conference is that it end in a stalemate, dividing the world between a US-UK dominated derivatives bloc and a Brazil-India- Russia-China-South Africa anti-derivatives bloc interested in real physical commodity production, not fictitious capital. Obama, in summation, is acting just like the abject puppet of the Wall Street derivatives merchants and warmongers which we have argued him to be. Webster G. Obama’s American Dream: Servitude

“When you choose to serve — whether it’s your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood — you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That’s why it’s called the American dream,” declares Obama on the newly fashioned Office of the President-Elect website.

	Charlie Rangle has authored a bill that may be dusted off after Obama enters the Oval Office. It’s called the National Service Act and calls for a universal draft with two years of “service” for virtually all persons aged 18-42, with no deferment for college.

Obama’s vision of the American dream, however, will not consist of Americans freely choosing to volunteer to work in their communities and neighborhoods. It will be a requirement. “Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.” (Emphasis added.)

And it will not simply be the young who will be “called” by government mandate to serve. It will be everybody, including senior citizens. “Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.” The words “call” and “require” appear to be interchangeable in this context.

As the Albuquerque Examiner mentioned yesterday, Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, wants compulsory service imposed on eighteen and twenty-five year old Americans. “They’ll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community,” writes Emanuel in his book, The Plan: Big Ideas for America. “These young people will be available to address their communities’ most pressing needs.”

It now appears Emanuel’s version of mandatory servitude, masquerading as patriotism, will not be limited to the young but will be imposed on all Americans, including retirees.

In July, Obama revealed his plan for “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the U.S. military. In the speech, Obama said “People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve.” He also said this mass movement requiring servitude “will be a central cause of my presidency.”

The language of Rangel’s bill states that “all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42″ be required to “perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security.”

In the months ahead, we can expect “public service,” i.e., compulsory servitude, to be a mantelpiece of the Obama regime. It will be necessary because Obama will undoubtedly soon have no shortage of enemies — that is to say, people opposed to his policies — and a national Stasi framework, under the rubric of a “civilian national security force,” will be required to ferret out enemies of the state. In addition, “carbon criminals” will need to be identified and rounded up and shipped off to re-education and forced labor camps.

Considering the emotional zeal of Obama’s kool aid drinkers — frighteningly on display as Obama swept the election — there will likely to be no shortage of recruits to enthusiastically enforce his decrees, actually decrees passed down by the globalist New World Order.

In a historical sense, this is fascism on steroids.

Addendum

Obama’s crew have reworded the text on the “America Serves” area of the Change-gov website. The word “require” has been removed, probably as a result of criticism, and other passages have been rewritten. Does this mean they no longer believe you should be a slave on an Obama work brigade? Hardly. Joe Biden has said “rich” people making over $250,000 need to work more for the state, not directly but by surrendering an even larger share of their personal income through confiscatory taxes, thus revealing a disturbing mentality: the state owns you. It’s patriotic to be a slave.

Schwarzenegger: $4.4B in tax hikes to end deficit

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed $4.4 billion in tax increases and billions more in spending cuts to close California’s worsening budget deficit, declaring: “We must stop the bleeding.”

Schwarzenegger on Thursday called for a special session of the state Legislature to address a deficit that has grown to $11.2 billion just six weeks after he signed the budget for the current fiscal year.

He said the state’s economic condition has deteriorated significantly since then, with a cratering stock market and the continued decline of the housing industry.

California’s budget relies greatly on capital gains taxes, which have dropped precipitously in recent months along with swooning stock prices. Sales and property taxes also have declined.

He said lawmakers will not be able to close the budget gap with cuts alone. He proposed a temporary 1.5 percent sales tax increase and other “revenue generators.”

IS RAHM EMANUEL A SECURITY RISK?

Rahm Emanuel's background is well-known. His father was a member of the Israeli Irgun, which was a violent underground movement against the British in Palestine. Rahm has deep ties to Israel and served as a civilian volunteer in the IDF in 1991. That, in and of itself, doesn't make him a security risk. What is disturbing, though, is that the FBI has, according to Wayne Madsen, a Counterintelligence file on him for his past connections with Mossad, and that this is what forced him out of the Clinton White House in 1998.

Is this far-fetched, that Rahm Emanuel may have active links to the Israeli Intelligence Service, Mossad? Not according to Wayne Madsen. We certainly should not be surprised that Mossad wants to penetrate the White House, whether it is through Emanuel or someone else. Apparently they may have done so in the past to great advantage. To say the least, the FBI must be allowed to do a full background check on everyone, including Emanuel. No free passes on such a critical issue, the security of the President.

Obama’s Treasury Candidates: Old Guard Of The Corporate Elite

All of the leading candidates for the position of Treasury Secretary under president elect Barack Obama directly represent the old guard of the corporate elite system that has used the American economy as it’s engine to drive their march toward a global empire for decades.

Under the banner of “change” whichever of these candidates is appointed to the Treasury will continue to rapidly expand the empowerment of the Federal Reserve monetary system and institute the very policies that have led us to the brink of financial ruin to move the economies of the world toward a centralized global banking system.

The Leading candidate for Obama’s Treasury Secretary is current Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York Tim Geithner.

In 2001, after leaving Bill Clinton’s Treasury, Geithner joined the Council on Foreign Relations as a Senior Fellow in the International Economics department. He then worked for the International Monetary Fund as the director of the Policy Development and Review Department until moving to the Fed in October 2003. In 2006 he became a member of the influential Washington-based financial advisory body, Group of Thirty, which was founded in 1978 at the initiative of the Rockefeller Foundation.

Back in June of this year after attending the annual Bilderberg power brokers conference in Virginia, Geithner penned an article in the Financial Times in which he called for a worldwide financial overhaul and the implementation of a globalized banking system.

Geithner stated that the US Federal Reserve should play a “central role” in the new regulatory framework, working closely with supervisors in the US and round the world.

“At present the Fed has broad responsibility for financial stability not matched by direct authority and the consequences of the actions we have taken in this crisis make it more important that we close that gap,” Geithner wrote.

How can Geithner represent real change when he is a long time servant of the very entities that created the conditions for and perpetuated financial meltdown for years?

Geithner represents an entrenched central banking system that has killed the free market, built up a power monopoly over the money and credit system, consistently followed an intrinsically detrimental path of ceaseless borrowing and presided over the fundamentally damaging process of printing of money out of thin air, leading to the devaluation of the US dollar which now has a global reputation on a par with if not worse than that of George W. Bush.

Geithner represents a critically bloated bastard entity of government and private wealth that has manipulated interest rates and falsely inflated bubbles that have fostered an economy of moral hazard and driven the world straight into a financial black hole.

In what way does this man offer any possibility of “change”?

He now advocates the implementation of measures of predatory globalism to solve the very crisis those policies have created. And he will have the tools to do it after the recent bailout bill passed granting the Treasury virtual dictatorial powers over economic policy.

Geithner is likely to get the nod as Treasury Secretary because he best fits the appearance of change, even though he does not represent any significant change.

Consider the following from a recent New York Times article:

[...] one senior adviser said it would be important to send a message of change at a time of economic crisis. “You can expect a fresh face instead of a recycled face” at the Treasury, the adviser said. He said that would include the boyish-looking Mr. Geithner, 47, who worked at the Treasury under Mr. Clinton and his Republican predecessors and has generally gotten high marks for his role in shaping the government response to the current crisis.

These traits symbolize Obama’s presidency to the tee, he appears to offer change on the surface, but underneath he offers as little real change from the entrenched elitist system in Washington as a McCain presidency would have or if George W. Bush had simply announced he was going to serve a third term.

The other candidates for Treasury secretary are likely to pursue exactly the same path as Geithner. Those candidates are:

Paul A. Volcker

The former Federal Reserve chief was a key figure in the decision to suspend gold convertibility in 1971, which resulted in the collapse of the Bretton Woods system. Volcker’s policies and continued high interest rates contributed to the significant recession the US economy experienced in the early 1980s, which included the highest unemployment levels since the Great Depression.

After leaving the Fed he became chairman of J. Rothschild, Wolfensohn & Co, the prominent New York investment banking firm run by former president of the World Bank and prominent Bilderberger James D. Wolfensohn.

Volcker was also a founding member of the Trilateral Commission along with David Rockefeller, whom he has also worked with at Chase Bank and through membership of the Trust Committee of Rockefeller Group, Inc.

As of October 2006, he is the current Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rockerfeller-founded Group of Thirty.

Robert E. Rubin

Former Treasury Secretary during the first and second Clinton administrations.

Rubin is as much to blame for the creation of the current financial crisis as Alan Greenspan is, as both men ignored the advice of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and strongly opposed the regulation of derivatives. Over-exposure to credit derivatives of mortgage-backed securities - or credit default swaps (CDS) was a key reason for the failure of Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, American International Group, and Washington Mutual in 2008.

On November 4, 2007, Rubin became the Chairman of Citigroup and is currently co-chairman of the board of directors of the Council on Foreign Relations. Rubin is also a member of the Group of Thirty.

Lawrence H. Summers

Former chief Economist for the World Bank (1991–1993) and Secretary of the Treasury for the last year and a half of the Clinton administration. Also served as the 27th President of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006.

Summers has been persistently criticized as an ardent proponent of globalization.

He has been involved in scandal several times, but perhaps the most notable was in December 1991 while at the World Bank. Summers signed a memo, which was subsequently leaked to the press, stating that developed countries ought to export more pollution to developing countries because these countries would incur the lowest cost in terms of lost wages of people made ill or killed. An aside to the memo stated that “the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest wage country is impeccable and we should face up to that”.

Summers is also a member of the Group of Thirty, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission.

So there you have it, choose your poison. Although they all have different labels they originate from the same bottle. These people do not represent change, they represent a continuation of the same elitist system that has no allegiance to the US and has been driving the American economy into the ground as part of its maniacal agenda for decades.

It’s too bad more Americans didn’t listen to the neocon wunderkind, Bill Kristol, before going to the polling places and voting for Barack Obama. Back in June, Kristol told the audience at an AIPAC conference there is little difference between Obama and McCain when it comes to Iran and the potential for conflict. “Obama’s not for cutting the defense budget,” said Kristol. “Obama’s not for pulling troops back from our forward positions around the world, with the exception of Iraq. Obama and McCain don’t actually differ, at least on paper, even on Iran, where they’re arguing about whether they would talk to [Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad or not — and I think that’s an important dispute. Still, at the end of the day, Obama doesn’t say he would rule out the use of force.”

Obama delivers his promise to confront Iran over its illusory nuclear weapons while Rahm Emanuel declares Obama to be the best friend Israel ever had.

Unfortunately, by the time election day rolled around, few people seemed to realize or care that Obama is essentially a neocon dedicated to the very same agenda as McCain, who was handled by a bevy of neocons. McCain wasn’t called McBush for nothing. Now that the election is over and Obama won handily, it will be safe for him to show his real colors, as he did less than 12 hours after cinching the nomination back in June. During the election, few seemed to remember this undying devotion to Israel, so pervasive was the Obama voodoo trance.

“A mere 12 hours after claiming the Democratic presidential nomination, Barack Obama appeared before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee yesterday — and changed himself into an Israel hard-liner,” Dana Milbank wrote for the Washington Post on June 5. “He promised $30 billion in military assistance for Israel. He declared that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force has ‘rightly been labeled a terrorist organization.’ He used terms such as ‘false prophets of extremism’ and ‘corrupt’ while discussing Palestinians.” He even went so far as to declare Jerusalem “the capital of Israel” and stressed, never mind international law, it must “must remain undivided,” that is to say in the hands of the Israelis.

Of course, it is easy enough to dismiss all of this as pre-election pandering. However, AIPAC has an uncanny way of holding presidents and members of Congress to the straight and narrow, that is to say making them tow the radical Likud line, including confrontation with Iran.

Even so, we were told by ardent Israel supporters that the candidate was at odds with the Jewish state. “Now that Obama has become a leading Presidential candidate, he has assembled a body of foreign policy advisers who signal that a President Obama would likely have an approach towards Israel radically at odds with those of previous Presidents (both Republican and Democrat). A group of experts collected by the Israeli liberal newspaper Haaretz deemed him to be the candidate likely to be least supportive of Israel. He is the candidate most favored by the Arab-American community,” Ed Lasky wrote for American Thinker in January. Lasky mentioned Obama’s relationship with Jeremiah Wright, Jr., a supporter of Louis Farrakhan, who once called Judaism a “gutter religion” and depicted Jews as “bloodsuckers.”

Regardless of assembled foreign policy advisers mentioned by Lasky and others, an Obama victory is not the dread of the neocons, in fact au contraire. Soon after sweeping the election, Obama picked Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel to be his chief of staff. On November 6, as predicted, Emanuel accepted the job. As Leon Hadar notes, the focus of neocon policies, in essence radical Likud policies, have drifted from the Republican party over to the Democrat party during the course of the Bush years. According to Hadar, “many leading Democratic activists and liberal intellectuals seem to be calling on their party to embrace an even more ‘pure’ or radical version of the neoconservative ideology.” It should be noted that “the ideology of the neoconservative movement has left-liberal origins,” according to Michael Lind, a former neocon. Many supported Democratic Senator Henry M. “Scoop” Jackson before embracing Reagan, so the apparent migration back into the Democrat party should not be viewed as a dichotomy.

Peter Symonds wrote on November 6: “On the eve of the US elections, the New York Times cautiously pointed on Monday to the emergence of a bipartisan consensus in Washington for an aggressive new strategy towards Iran. While virtually nothing was said in the course of the election campaign, behind-the-scenes top advisers from the Obama and McCain camps have been discussing the rapid escalation of diplomatic pressure and punitive sanctions against Iran, backed by preparations for military strikes.”

Behind the backs of American voters, top advisers for President-elect Barack Obama have been setting the stage for a dramatic escalation of confrontation with Iran as soon as the new administration takes office. A report released in September from the Bipartisan Policy Center, a Washington-based think tank, argued that a nuclear weapons capable Iran was “strategically untenable” and detailed a robust approach, “incorporating new diplomatic, economic and military tools in an integrated fashion”.

Primary to this “bipartisan consensus” is none other than Dennis Ross, who is well known for his neocon views. Ross is Obama’s top Middle East adviser. “He backed the US invasion of Iraq and is closely associated with neo-cons such as Paul Wolfowitz. Ross worked under Wolfowitz in the Carter and Reagan administrations before becoming the chief Middle East envoy under presidents Bush senior and Clinton. After leaving the State Department in 2000, he joined the right-wing, pro-Israel think tank—the Washington Institute for Near East Policy — and signed up as a foreign policy analyst for Fox News,” notes Symonds.

Is it possible an attack launched against Iran is the “test” Joe Biden, Colin Powell, Madelaine Albright and others predict after Obama assumes office? It appears that it may be.

Two More U.S. Military Units Assigned For Homeland Security

Northcom has announced that two more U.S. military units will be assigned for domestic homeland security missions, bringing the total number of combat ready service members operating inside the U.S. to around 4,700, as fears grow about the increasing militarization of law enforcement.

The announcement follows the controversy surrounding a September 8 Army Times report (revised on September 30), which revealed that the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team, fresh from combat duties in Iraq, would be operating inside America for tasks including “civil unrest and crowd control,” a detail that was later denied by Northcom despite the concession that forces would be armed with both non-lethal and lethal weapons as well as having access to tanks.

“In the next three years the military plans to activate and train an estimated 4,700 service members for specialized domestic operations, according to Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, commander of U.S. Northern Command, which was created in 2002 for homeland defense missions,” reports the Colorado Independent.

“It’s to help us manage the consequences of a large-scale event,” said Renuart. “We have one [unit] now trained and equipped and assigned to the Northern Command. We’ll grow a second one this calendar year of 2009 and a third one in the calendar year 2010 so we can provide the nation three sets of capabilities that could respond to an event of the size of 9/11 or larger.”

But as Mike German, national security counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union’s legislative office in Washington., D.C., points out, “This isn’t a military police brigade or a civil affairs brigade. This is actually a combat brigade being assigned a domestic mission.”

“It’s fine for the general to say that,” said counter-terrorist operations specialist German. “But we want to know what the policies actually are, what the roles are and what the regulations are to see whether this is actually complying with the law.”

The ACLU has filed a Freedom Of Information Request demanding more information on the purpose and scope of military assets under Northcom control being deployed domestically

Despite Northcom’s insistence that the deployments are purely related to natural disaster and mass casualty response, the original Army Times report quoted 1st BCT commander Col. Roger Cloutier as saying that the unit would be trained in the use of “nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals” for the purposes of “crowd and traffic control”.

The use of U.S. troops in law enforcement duties is a complete violation of the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act, which substantially limit the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement unless under precise and extreme circumstances.

Section 1385 of the Posse Comitatus Act states, “Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”

Under the John Warner Defense Authorization Act, signed by President Bush on October 17, 2006, the law was changed to state, “The President may employ the armed forces to restore public order in any State of the United States the President determines hinders the execution of laws or deprives people of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law or opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.”

However, these changes were repealed in their entirety by HR 4986: National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008, reverting back to the original state of the Insurrection Act of 1807. Despite this repeal, President Bush attached a signing statement saying that he did not feel bound by the repeal.

Fears of active duty military assets being called upon to administer martial law in the aftermath of an economic collapse or a large scale terrorist attack were heightened after we revealed the existence of a FEMA-run program which is training Pastors and other religious representatives to become secret police enforcers who teach their congregations to “obey the government” in preparation for a declaration of martial law, property and firearm seizures, and forced relocation.

Ultrasound Shown to Exert Remote Control of Brain Circuits

Description In a twist on nontraditional uses of ultrasound, a group of neuroscientists at Arizona State University has developed pulsed ultrasound techniques that can remotely stimulate brain circuit activity. Their findings, published in the Oct. 29 issue of the journal Public Library of Science (PLoS) One, provide insights into how low-power ultrasound can be harnessed for the noninvasive neurostimulation of brain circuits and offers the potential for new treatments of brain disorders and disease.

Newswise — In a twist on nontraditional uses of ultrasound, a group of neuroscientists at Arizona State University has developed pulsed ultrasound techniques that can remotely stimulate brain circuit activity. Their findings, published in the Oct. 29 issue of the journal Public Library of Science (PLoS) One, provide insights into how low-power ultrasound can be harnessed for the noninvasive neurostimulation of brain circuits and offers the potential for new treatments of brain disorders and disease.

While it might be hard to imagine the day where doctors could treat post traumatic stress disorders, traumatic brain injury and even Alzheimer’s disease with the flip of a switch, most of us have in fact experienced some of ultrasound’s numerous applications in our daily lives. For example, ultrasound has been used in fetal and other diagnostic medical imaging, ultrasonic teeth cleaning, physiotherapies, or surgical ablation. Ultrasound also provides a multitude of other non-medical uses, including pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, nondestructive materials testing, sonar, communications, oceanography and acoustic mapping.

“Studies of ultrasound and its interactions with biological tissues have a rich history dating back to the late 1920s,” lead investigator William “Jamie” Tyler points out. “Several research groups have, for more than a half-century, demonstrated that ultrasound can produce changes in excitable tissues, such as nerve and/or muscle, but detailed studies in neurons at the cellular level have been lacking.”

“We were able to unravel how ultrasound can stimulate the electrical activity of neurons by optically monitoring the activity of neuronal circuits, while we simultaneously propagated low-intensity, low-frequency ultrasound through brain tissues,” says Tyler, assistant professor of neurobiology and bioimaging in the School of Life Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Led by Tyler, the ASU research group discovered that remotely delivered low intensity, low frequency ultrasound (LILFU) increased the activity of voltage-gated sodium and calcium channels in a manner sufficient to trigger action potentials and the release of neurotransmitter from synapses. Since these processes are fundamental to the transfer of information among neurons, the authors pose that this type of ultrasound provides a powerful new tool for modulating the activity of neural circuits.

“Many of the stimulation methods used by neuroscientists require the use and implantation of stimulating electrodes, requiring direct contact with nervous tissue or the introduction of exogenous proteins, such as those used for the light-activation of neurons,” Tyler explains.

The search for new types of noninvasive neurostimulation methods led them to revisit ultrasound.

“We were quite surprised to find that ultrasound at power levels lower than those typically used in routine diagnostic medical imaging procedures could produce an increase in the activity of neurons while higher power levels produced very little effect on their activity,” Tyler says.

Other neuroscientists and engineers have also been rapidly developing new neurostimulation methods for controlling nervous system activity and several approaches show promise for the treatment of a wide variety of nervous system disorders. For example, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Vagal Nerve Stimulation (VNS) have been shown to be effective in the management of psychiatric disorders such as depression, bipolar disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and drug addition, as well as for therapies of neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Tourette Syndrome, epilepsy, dystonia, stuttering, tinnitus, recovery of cognitive and motor function following stroke, and chronic pain. Up until now, these two techniques have captured the attention of physicians and scientists; however, these therapies still pose risks to patients because they require the surgical implantation of stimulating electrodes. Thus, these types of therapies are often only available to patients presenting the worst of prognoses.

One prior stumbling block to using ultrasound noninvasively in the brain has been the skull. However, the acoustic frequencies utilized by Tyler and his colleagues to construct their pulsed ultrasound waveforms, overlap with a frequency range where optimal energy gains are achieved between transcranial transmission and brain absorption of ultrasound – which allows the ultrasound to penetrate bone and yet prevent damage to the soft tissues. Their findings are supported by other studies examining the potential of high-intensity focused ultrasound for ablating brain tissues, where it was shown that low-frequency ultrasound could be focused through human skulls.

When asked about the potential of using his groups’ methods to remotely control brain activity, Tyler says: “One might be able to envision potential applications ranging from medical interventions to use in video gaming or the creation of artificial memories along the lines of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in ‘Total Recall.’ Imagine taking a vacation without actually going anywhere?”

“Obviously, we need to conduct further research and development, but one of the most exhilarating prospects is that low intensity, low frequency ultrasound permit deep-brain stimulation procedures without requiring exogenous proteins or surgically implanted medical devices,” he adds.

Tyler and the other ASU researchers will now focus on further characterization of the influence of ultrasound on intact brain circuits and translational research, taking low intensity ultrasound from the lab into pre-clinical trials and treatment of neurological diseases.
